MERINO’S @ WOOLMERS ESTATE RENAMED Marjories

Marjories Café & Restaurant - Woolmers Estate, Longford, Tasmania

Opened recently in the brand new Nigel Peck Centre on Woolmer’s Estate – the shortly lived name of Merino’s has been renamed “Marjories”  in tribute to Marjorie Archer.

From Merino’s Facebook page:  “We have chosen to celebrate and honour Marjorie Archer’s vibrant contribution to Woolmers Estate by naming the restaurant after Marjorie.

Marjorie is fondly remembered as possessing a lively and endearing personality, a wonderful sense of humour and a gracious flamboyant style. She adored time spent alongside her spaniel dog in the estate’s gardens and was a true traditionalist and took much delight in entertaining friends and distinguished guests visiting Woolmers.”

The Café & Restaurant will also serve as a function & wedding venue, managed by Karen Burbury  (Cataract on Paterson), with  Chris Williams heading the Culinary Team.

BLUE CAFÉ BAR & RESTAURANT

Blue Café has shut up shop – closed down – with no inkling as to why, apart from the one sign last week saying, closed due to illness.  Kip & Claire have run an amazing cafe in the Inveresk precinct since 2008 and it has been a most popular eatery & bar.  This leaves a bit of a gap for coffee spots in the area but with the emergence of UTAS & other exciting things for the area, we’re sure it will become a thriving hub of activity.  A little birdy tells me ……..  it will be the new home for ………..

JOYCE CHINESE

Now closed down.  The premises in Brisbane Street have formerly been home to many great restaurants.  Back in the 70’s it was the West End Restaurant followed by Montezuma’s Mexican in the 80s.  Another extremely popular restaurant was the Theodoti Greek Tavern which is sorely missed, especially since Launceston currently has no representation for Greek Cuisine.
