THE 1ST ANNUAL LIAM GUTHRIE TRIBUTE DAY

October 06 @ 3:00 pm – 8:55 pm Prince’s Square then The Royal Oak Hotel 14 Brisbane St. LAUNCESTON Tas. 7250
On behalf of the Pennicott family, I would like to send an extended invitation to celebrate the life and music of our dear friend, Liam Guthrie.
The day will kick off at 3pm in Prince’s Square (weather permitting), with some family friendly park times. There will be frisbees, footies, tunes and good vibes. There will also be an acoustic guitar, microphone and a PA on hand if anyone feels up to belting out a tune or 3. It’ll be super casual and a good opportunity for people to catch up over a few cheeky park tins (BYO park tins) whilst the kids run amok (I take no responsibility for any children that end up in the fountain!). At 6:30pm in The Royal Oak Hotel’s Boat Shed (where else!), doors will open for an exclusive listening party for the new/unreleased Guthrie album ‘HUSK’. Capacity is strictly limited and registration via the below RSVP link is essential.
I’ll have a bit of a chat about the creation of the album before it plays from beginning to end. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/guthrie-husk-listening-party-tickets-50628763996 After the album has finished, there will be an unveiling of a plaque in the front bar of The Oak in Liam’s honour. Liam’s sister, Emma Galvin, will share some words during this time.At 8pm, doors will open for one hell of a fuck-off rock show. I’ve carefully curated some of my favourite Launceston bands for a MASSIVE party. The soundtrack will be provided by… The Prickly Grapes ISLA KA Bad Beef The Little Cubas + a super surprise acoustic set. $20 on the door.
I really wanted to showcase some new talent that I’ve really been digging lately (and I know Liam would have too) as well as some old favourites. Liam absolutely loved the music that came out this town and often boasted about it on our travels to anyone that would listen. Launceston and Tasmania really do punch well above their weight.

October 07 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Van Diemen’s Band Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery 2 Wellington Street LAUNCESTON  Tas.  7250

Van Diemen’s Band is joined by international soloists, cellist Catherine Jones (Australia/Italy) and Baroque guitarist William Carter (UK) for a sumptuous program of Italian music composed during the Spanish Occupation. Heavily influenced by dance, this music of the High Baroque takes a simple structure and transforms it into a supremely virtuosic display, Concertos by Vivaldi, Fiorenza, arrangements of Neapolitan folk tunes by Gaspar Sanz and the famous Fandango quintet by Boccherini.  Get Tickets

We welcome you all to our annual Tunes in the Tulips with live music, local produce, bar & family friendly with kids activities.

FEATURING:

THE FISH JOHN WEST REJECT (Tas/ Melb) This classic Tas/Melb band is reuniting for Tunes in the Tulilps. This cut through pub band sold out the Tassie pub scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Featuring on Countdown Revolution in the early 90’s, their classic album “Left” is still loved today. Reforming in the late 90’s as “The Dunaways” they traversed Melbourne and Tasmania. We are ecstatic to have “Fish” play this year.

MATT KATSIS (Melbourne) Matt’s Sunday vibes with his blues and roots flavour will get you going. This solo artist has a one man band style, the rhythm he creates with his feet and guitar gives Matt’s sound a richness and depth. We are lucky to be catching him on his Tassie tour.
