Tamar Cove – Beauty Point, Tasmania – an idyllic setting on the mouth of the Tamar River, west side.
We headed out on a scenic 40 minute drive through the rolling hills of the Tamar Valley and then through Beaconsfield (the home of the mining tragedy) to lunch at Beauty Point.
Beauty Point is a sleepy little riverfront town, that comes awake with its variety of eating out options.

The Riviera & the Waterfront Hotels, both on the waterfront as their names suggest – boast fabulous pub meals.
The two cafés, River Café & Suenami (don’t let the outside fool you), offer up memorable dishes that will satisfy the fussiest of eaters.
We chose to eat outside on the deck, being a sunny winter’s day, but before too long, the chill factor was a tad too cool for our liking so we were happily settled inside.
The late night prior and probably too many drinks, determined the meal choices for my husband. Hangovers require deep fried food &/or a juicy piece of meat. This was achieved by the ordering of 1/2 a dozen plump prawns & an Eye Fillet w/ Pepper Sauce.

Having shared the entrée, hubby’s steak arrived perched on the top of a super hot stack of chips, with the Pepper Sauce drizzling through lightly, not enough to make the chips soggy. Cooked to perfection for medium rare, his meal was faultless.
Now I haven’t mentioned my choice for main course, so after much deliberation – I chose the Blue Eye Trevalla. It was a real toss up between that & a Scallop Curry Pie or one with Mornay Sauce. The healthy option of Trevalla won the day, served atop another crunchy fresh salad.
A delicate tasting bearnaise sauce drizzled over the top, certainly complemented the flavour of the beautifully fresh trevalla, without overwhelming the whole taste. With that & a local Riesling from Goaty Hill, I couldn’t have enjoyed the lunch any more.
The service was impeccable, friendly but not obtrusive – EXACTLY how it should be. Full points!
