My name is Nelson Tabe, and I have a rich history with Launceston and love my city. If you know me, here’s where you might know me from (feel free to skip this part, I just kept thinking of events along this trip down memory lane):
– the schools I attended, East Launceston Primary School, Queechy High School, Alanvale College, Launceston College, Tasmanian State Institute of Technology or the University of Tasmania;
– seeing me perform as a child/ teenager on the electronic organ at the Launceston Show for Thomas Organs or the Launceston Competitions;
– competing against me in the Inter High swimming carnivals or just generally frequenting the pool as I grew up in a house over the road and I spent most of my summers there;
– spending many after school times in town to go home with my dad (Phil Tabe from Dawe, Tabe and Lees Real Estate} or even seeing me as one of the kids in a ‘Still the One’ ad on Channel 9 on the old blocks in the Mall holding my index finger up as a one;
– seeing or performing with me somewhere in bands such as the TSIT Concert Band on the Euphonium;
– working Thursday/ Friday nights and Saturday mornings at Coles Supermarket, Racecourse Crescent
– performing in bands Dinner Time/ Devils in Heaven/ The Fabulous Picasso Bros at such places as Night Moves, the Basin Concert, the Pavilion Tavern, Jacksons, the Lounge Bar, the Star Bar, the Irish, Festivale, New Year on Royal and various private functions such as weddings, balls and community events
Devils in Heaven
– seeing me in Australian Slimmers magazine, Today Tonight and the Midday Show with Kerrie Anne Kennerly as Australian Slimmer of the Year

– teaching you or your children at Cressy District High, Queechy High, or Summerdale, Punchbowl or Perth Primary Schools
– conducting school choirs at events such as the Longford Show, school Community events or the annual Singfest event at the Albert Hall
– performing in Vox Harmony, the City of Launceston Choir in ANZAC Day Services at the Cenotaph, Australia Day citizenship ceremonies at the Albert Hall and various other community and concert type settings
– performing on and off stage for Launceston Musical Society productions such as Godspell, 9 to 5 and the 20th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Challenge
and the most important job of all
“//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js” async=””>

– taking my primary school aged children to school and different activities such as swimming/ squad lessons, Little Athletics, dance lessons, music lessons, the movies, tennis lessons, Auskick, touch football, netball, Scouts and various other outdoor pursuits
OR
– I’m related to you (as mum is one of nine children descended from convicts, there are a few of us around).
As you can see, I have a rich history with the community and I have a passion for our city. Having virtually grown up in town, in a funny way I feel I have some ownership over the city and am standing for council to give back to my community.
I have no ulterior aspirations in politics, but I look at this Councillor job as just a person who has Launceston’s best intentions at heart and wants the best for our city. This is where I am coming from.
I don’t really know the ins and outs of this job with council as I have never done that job before, but you can believe that I would be doing my utmost to do the right things by the ratepayers of Launceston.
I do have a particular interest in our heritage so I would like to preserve what we have but also look to make improvements in places where they can be made. I am not affiliated with any parties or organisations so I am completely impartial with my opinions. I will aim for all voices of our community to be heard, not just the loudest ones.”
