STEVEN OSBORNE IN RECITAL

August 07 @ 7:30 pm
Albert Hall
Tamar Street
LAUNCESTON  Tas.  7250
Phenomenally talented pianist Steven Osborne performs music by Debussy and Prokofiev, vastly different composers who approached the piano in entirely different ways. For Debussy, the piano was a sensuous instrument; dreamy, colourful and picturesque. For Prokofiev, it was a colossus to be tamed; powerful, intense and percussive. What is common to both is tremendous virtuosity. Steven Osborne – appearing in recital, without orchestra – is sure to dazzle in this, his only Tasmanian appearance.  TICKETS

LAUNCESTON COLLEGE PRESENTS JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

August 08 –  August 11 @ 7:30 pm & August 11 @ 1:00 pm
Princess Theatre Launceston
57 Brisbane Street
LAUNCESTON  Tas.  7250

Launceston College presents Jesus Christ Superstar. This modernised remake of the 1970 rock opera tells a fresh narrative on the last week of Jesus’s life. Told through the eyes of Judas Isacriot in the streets of Jerusalem it starts just as Jesus enters Jerusalem and finishes with his crucifixion.
The youth have taken to the streets to protest corporate control of governments, spiraling inequity and the ever-growing gap of haves and have nots. The Twelve lead their followers in pursuit of equality in the face of an all-powerful corporation, a debaucherous matriarch and a toothless government, who are all fated to collide in events that might just change the world.Bookings at the Box Office 6323 3666 or www.theatrenorth.com.au

LAUNCESTON BIBLE FORUM

August 11 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
St John’s Launceston
St John Street
LAUNCESTON  Tas.  7250

Topic: The Christian Imagination  How important is using your imagination for the way you live your Christian life  Some might say that the human imagination is the opposite of God’s truth: “Let the Scriptures cease to be heard and soon the remembered Christ becomes an imagined Christ” (James Smart). Others, that imagination is central to the faithful life:   “If we wish to have transformed obedience … then we must be summoned to an alternative imagination” (Walter Brueggemann).

What does the Bible say about imagination And how might we use our imagination to glorify God

Presented by: Graham Stanton, Lecturer in Practical Theology at Ridley College, Melbourne.

Just the mere mention of chocolate turns heads and that’s what Chocolate Winterfest, Latrobe will do to you.

Chocolate Winterfest, Latrobe will indulge, inform, astound, amuse but above all celebrate chocolate as you escape from the bleakness of winter.

Be indulged by events individually or successively as you immerse in this chocolate experience. Some are free, others have a participation cost.

Don’t deny one of life’s pleasures – join us at Latrobe on the central northern coast of Tasmania for this unique celebration.
